The last few weeks have flown by for us. We had a wonderful Easter dinner at our house with a few other families in the area. There were eight kids total, and lots of Easter eggs found and bread rolls and cupcakes consumed by little hands.
Son James just started swimming lessons at the YMCA. James and I were cautious and wondering if James would like them. So we told James he should try two lessons and if he chose not to continue the lessons then we would try swim lessons another time. At the first lesson James was a little apprehensive about jumping in the water and blowing bubbles under the water, but after feeling comfortable with the swim instructor and in the water, James left the pool with lots of smiles and was begging me to let him stay longer to swim. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening James has swim practice and I enjoy sitting on the side waving and encouraging him through his swim progress. Gabriel hangs out in the YMCA nursery for about an hour during the lesson. It is great to have one-on-one time with James, since I get one on one time with Gabriel while James is at preschool in the mornings.
I have picked up several donation this week for the auction I am helping with. Yea!!!! We have got a lot of really great donations from local area businesses. It is only 5 weeks away! The other person I am co-chairing this auction with, Vanessa, and I have already agreed we are treating ourselves to a nice dinner and margaritas after this event is over.
Our garden is still a work in progress. March was an unusually cold month here, and we had to start over a few weeks later. Our poor beans and radishes died. James enjoyed helping transplant the few plants that survived inside to the garden spot and then we planted carrots, basil, cucumbers, peas, tomatoes and radishes directly into the warmer soil outside. We also cheated a bit at this gardening experience by buying some strawberry and tomato starts. James loves watering the garden and watching the small sprouts emerge from the soil. I think James' favorite part of gardening is looking for worms in the soil and running through the garden plot once in a while with Gabriel. Now they both turn and smile before they step into the gardening soil. My theory on gardening with the boys is that it is a time for us to work, learn and play together and what survives in our garden plot this year, may just be a miracle.
